We've tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about scrapping a car, if you can't find the answer you need, please Contact Us.
How do I scrap my car?
Scrap a Car Leeds make it easy for you to scrap your car. Simply contact us with at least your registration and postcode, and we'll guide you through the rest of the process.
How do I prove my identity?
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act ( Read it here ) requires that we confirm your identity when you recycle your scrap car. This applies throughout the UK.
A current photo-card driving licence is all that we need to confirm your full name, date of birth and residential address.
If you don't have a photo-card driving license, you can produce another form of photo ID, along with separate proof of your address. You'll need one item from each of the two Government approved lists below.
Accepted forms of photo ID:
• Valid UK passport
• Valid passport issued by an European Economic Area state
• Valid UK biometric immigration document.
Accepted proof of address (which must not be older than 3 months):
• Bank or building society statement
• Credit or debit card statement
• Council tax statement or demand letter
• Utility bill (e.g. gas, electricity, water), but not a mobile phone bill.
What condition does my car need to be in?
You can scrap any car, in any condition with Scrap a Car Leeds, the only thing we ask is that the vehicle is accessible to our recovery vehicle and has all four wheels attached.
How do I prepare for my scrap car collection?
If you want to scrap your car with us, just make sure it’s accessible, and that you are available at the agreed time and date – it’s no good if it’s locked away in a garage or out at the back of your home! If you have the documentation that comes with the car – such as the V5 logbook – then please have that ready to give to our collection team, in addition to a valid form of ID. Please see above under "How do I prove my identity?" to find out what ID is acceptable. Our friendly collection driver will happily complete all the required paperwork.
Can I deliver my scrap car off?
Certainly! If you would like to deliver the vehicle for whatever reason just let our advisory know and they will provide you with all the information needed.
How do I get paid?
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act ( Read it here ) makes paying cash for scrap illegal, as this is the case we pay you by bank transfer, usually within 24 hours of receiving your vehicle on site.
What happens once you have my car?
Once your scrap car is received on site we produce a DVLA Certificate of Destruction (CoD) then, depollute, dismantle and recycle it into reusable materials.
